Connection methods

Choose the right way to connect.

For most home users, Wi-Fi is the best choice. USB is useful for one nearby computer, while Ethernet offers stability for offices.

Wi-Fi

Wireless network

Print from multiple computers and mobile devices connected to the same router.

  • Know the Wi-Fi name and password
  • Place the printer near the router
  • Temporarily disable a VPN during setup
USB

Direct cable

A straightforward connection for one Windows PC or Mac near the printer.

  • Use a compatible data cable
  • Wait to connect until prompted
  • Install official software first when required
LAN

Ethernet network

A stable wired network option for offices and shared printers with an Ethernet port.

  • Connect to the router, not the computer
  • Allow the router to assign an address
  • Add the printer from each device
DIRECT

Wi-Fi Direct

Connect a phone or computer directly when a normal local network is unavailable.

  • Internet may pause while connected
  • Find the printer’s Direct password
  • Reconnect to normal Wi-Fi afterward

When the printer still won’t connect

Printer is not found during setup
  1. Confirm the printer, computer, and phone are on the same local network.
  2. Move the printer closer to the router and restart the printer, router, and device.
  3. Turn on Bluetooth and location permission when the official mobile app requests them for discovery.
  4. Disconnect any VPN temporarily, then search again.
  5. Restore the printer’s Wi-Fi setup mode using its model-specific manual.
Printer shows offline
  1. Verify the printer is powered on without an active error.
  2. Confirm the network indicator is steady and the device uses the same network.
  3. Clear paused jobs and ensure “Use Printer Offline” is disabled.
  4. Restart the print service or remove and add the printer again.
  5. Install current software only from the manufacturer or operating-system update service.
Wi-Fi changed or router was replaced
  1. Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on the printer.
  2. Open the manufacturer’s official setup app or wireless wizard.
  3. Select the new network name and enter its password.
  4. Reconnect computers and phones to the updated printer entry.
Scanner works poorly or is missing
  1. Confirm the all-in-one printer is detected on the same network.
  2. Install the manufacturer’s full software or supported scanning app.
  3. On Windows, check Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
  4. Test a basic scan before configuring email, cloud, or document workflows.
